Following the King’s Cross fire of 1987, the resulting enquiry prompted the introduction of additional fire precautions for “Sub-surface Railway Stations”. These additional requirements were introduced under Section 12 of the Fire Precautions Act 1971, and have since been known simply as “Section 12” regs.
Section 12 applies to the material used to construct, repair and fit out environments that fall within its category. The product will never combust, it will only bubble and subsequently melt, leaving a dense burn mark therefore achieving a Class 1 rating.
Contar Resins is one of the only Section 12 approved flooring suppliers in the UK, providing fire resistant MMA resin flooring solutions to clients including London Underground and many other organisations operating high-risk locations that have chosen to adopt these stringent fire safety regulations.
