As part of a larger social housing refurbishment contract, we were asked to install new floor coatings to private balconies on a block of flats. The balconies were all prone to flooding due to either no drainage or drainage not working as it should. Some of these balconies also leaked due to prolonged standing water. We removed the existing asphalt surfacing by using hand-held grinders and then installed new Aco gully drainage systems throughout.
We then applied a Ronacrete waterproofing system followed by a polymer modified screed laid to create falls into the new gullies. We installed a coving detail, by hand, to the inside perimeter of each balcony and then applied a further waterproofing layer to the entire floor area. To finish, we installed Contar Dekor Broadcast system using decorative coloured flakes as chosen by the tenants.
All balconies walls were then decorated as before and any external brickwork that was either in need of repair or water stained from continual leaking were dealt with accordingly. The works were carried out during normal working hours with the usual public interface health and safety requirements in place.
